RISING were lucky enough to have Suzuki Brisbane Tigers Hostplus Cup Player, Luke Bain, come out and assist with the program.

Luke attended a session with Hymba Yumba Independent School. The students there enjoyed hearing Luke’s story on how he has ended up in Brisbane.

From growing up in Sydney and knocking on door of the NRL, to sharing his goals both in Rugby League and for the future, Luke was able to provide some real life insight into what it takes to become a competitive athlete.

He explained the importance of eating healthy and how using a diary can help you stay on top of your mental health by checking in daily with your emotions.

Luke then joined in with the exercise challenges and games on the oval, running drills and joining in with fellow Tiger and RISING officer, Ryley Jacks.

Q&A with Luke

How did you find the experience today at Hymba Yumba?

I really enjoyed it, just watching how much enjoyment the kids got from us going out there and getting a bit of break from just normal classroom activities. I think that was really good and they really enjoyed it so it was good.

Why do you think programs like RISING Community Program are important?

I think it’s really important to be able to get out and help the next generation of footy players and just people in the community. Anything that I can share from my own past experiences that can help them in their own journeys in life going forward, I think is always a positive.

Why did you want to get involved in the RISNG Community Program?

Personally, I’ve always enjoyed kind of things that I can help others, whether it be jobs that I am doing or just community work like this. Though my past experiences in football I’ve always kind of tried to help wherever I can. And I just personally get a lot of enjoyment out of it so its not only helping them but its also giving me purpose away from footy as well.
